What Are Phones Made Of? An Omron Procurement Checklist: 8110 Connectors, the PM3032, and Wrist Cuffs

Use this when you're sourcing from a distributor, a marketplace, or an aftermarket seller. It's not for original design engineers. Step 1: Get the full Omron part number, not a nickname

Omron is a huge company. It makes relays, sensors, connectors, and medical devices. '8110' might be a connector, and 'PM3032' might be a different SKU entirely. If your purchase order just says 'Omron 8110,' you're asking for surprises.

On a $3,200 order of connectors, I once ordered 8110-series parts with the wrong actuator type. The photos looked fine on my screen. They didn't fit the flex cable. 500 pieces, straight to the return bin. No returns accepted. I want to say the full part number ended with '-1A,' but don't quote me on that - which is exactly my point. Nobody should order from memory alone.

Step 2: Know what the part goes into - and what are phones made of, really?

New buyers ask 'what are phones made of?' and it's not a silly question. A phone is basically a sandwich of glass, aluminum, copper, plastic, lithium, rare-earth magnets, and dozens of tiny connectors. The connector is the part that people don't think about until it stops working.

If you're sourcing an 8110 connector for a phone repair, you need to know the pitch, the mounting height, the contact style, and the cable thickness. I'm not a connector engineer, so I can't speak to the electrical side. What I can tell you from a procurement perspective is that the data sheet answers most of those mechanical questions before you order. Print it. Keep it with the order.

Step 3: Confirm the SKU before you assume 'Omron' means one thing

This is the mistake that still annoys me. A customer asked for an Omron wrist blood pressure cuff. I assumed they meant the Omron PM3032 because that model number was on our fast-mover list. It wasn't the same product. We shipped, the customer rejected the box, and $450 went to a restocking fee plus a one-week delay.

Looking back, I should have asked, 'What model number is printed on the unit?' At the time, I thought I knew the product line. Now I don't trust my memory for product IDs. Step 4: Verify compatibility before you scale

From the outside, a cuff is a cuff and a connector is a connector. The reality is different. Most buyers focus on per-unit pricing and completely miss whether the part will actually fit. The question everyone asks is 'what's your best price?' The question they should ask is 'does this have a verified compatibility list?'

For a wrist blood pressure cuff, check the monitor model group, cuff size, hose length, and connector style. For an 8110 connector or any other phone connector, check the pin count, pitch, actuator direction, and rated cycles. 'Omron' on the label is not a compatibility guarantee. It's a brand, not a spec.

Step 5: Order a sample, even when it feels slower

Rush orders make you want to skip documentation. That's exactly when mistakes happen. A sample costs a few dollars and a few days. A wrong bulk order costs hundreds or thousands and weeks.
