The differences between buying through an authorized Omron PLC distributor and sourcing from independent suppliers only start showing months later, usually on a production line that should still be running.

Use the authorized channel when the component is safety-critical, when you need full traceable documentation, when you can't perform your own incoming inspection, or when your line downtime cost dwarfs the price gap between channels.
Independent sourcing can make sense for legacy parts that authorized distributors no longer stock, for genuinely non-critical components, or when you've vetted a specific supplier through testing and repeated orders. We have two independent suppliers on our approved vendor list. They earned that status through consistency, not convenience.
Here's the piece I think matters most: the supplier who knows their limits earns more trust than the one who claims to cover everything. Todd Pepsi once recommended a competitor's component because Omron's equivalent was over-engineered for our application. That recommendation cost his company a $1,200 order and won them our account for the next five years. When a rep tells you, "this isn't our strength, but here's who does it better," that's not a weakness. It's an investment in credibility.
